I missed that, more than I even realised I did.Īs much as I wouldn't advocate transplanting that system into GD I forgot how good it feels to really care about rares. Now dont get me wrong I adore GD and its probably the best ARPG ever made (imo) but D2 still has that special something, the way hits stagger and prevent combat, the way different enemies behave, the way loot is drip fed to you so sparsely that even a half good rare feels like the the best thing since sliced bread. Yeah the thing I appreciate most tbh is how special good loot actually feels. If they wanted to moderise D2 they would have already done it for this remaster. Hopefully they'll add an optional game mode at some point that will bring new features and modernization to the game, because there really is still a pretty incredible game underneath all the wear and tear. For what it's worth, though, that feeling you get when something good does finally drop is unrivaled.īut yeah, I certainly have more appreciation for how games have evolved after playing D2R. I was younger then and time was irrelevant I suppose, but I also think games were just designed differently back then and we didn't know any better. I have no idea why any of us put ourselves through that. Reminds me of the early days of Everquest where I'd spend weeks at a time raiding with my guild, hoping for some shiny new piece of armor to drop, and almost always would come up short at the end of the day. I know if I stick with it, my luck will pay off eventually, but.I just don't have the patience for this crap like I used to. I even tried going back and grinding certain bosses in the hopes my luck would pay off - nope. I spent most of the game wearing the same crap armor and using the same crap weapon because I never got any good loot drops. It was awesome getting to revisit an old friend that brought much joy to my life 20 years ago, and overall I really enjoyed my time with the game, but it truly is one of those games that has no respect for your time and can feel downright unrewarding if you don't completely commit to it.
